WHEN THE REPORT IS BAD, BUT GOD IS GOOD
Some of the most important choices we make in a crisis aren’t about what we do — they’re about what we refuse to say.
In this deeply personal message, Pastor JoAnne Ramsay shares the story of her husband David’s sudden AFib diagnosis and the moment doctors announced that his surgery had failed and an emergency pacemaker was needed. In a moment that could have easily produced fear and panic, Pastor Jo chose to stand firmly on God’s Word and respond in faith.
This message is a powerful reminder that our circumstances do not have to determine our words, our faith, or our response.
THE POWER OF OUR WORDS
When difficult news comes, it can be tempting to repeat the bad report to everyone around us. But Pastor Jo teaches that our words carry real weight in a spiritual battle.
Standing at her husband’s bedside, she chose to pray with authority rather than continually rehearse the diagnosis. Her focus was not on denying what the doctors had said, but on refusing to allow fear to become the final word.
What we choose to speak in a difficult moment matters.
When circumstances seem overwhelming, we can choose to guard our words and stand on what God has already spoken.
THE HOLY SPIRIT — OUR TEACHER AND HELPER
Pastor Jo reminds us that the Holy Spirit is the true author of Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation, God’s Word was inspired by Him.
The same Holy Spirit who inspired Scripture is also the One who teaches and guides us today.
Pastor Jo shares how she relies on the Holy Spirit not only when she studies the Word, but also when she stands to preach and minister. We can trust Him to give us wisdom, direction, and the words we need for every situation.
GOD DOESN’T WAIT UNTIL YOU FEEL READY
God does not always call us when we feel prepared.
Pastor Jo shares how she was called into ministry nearly three decades ago. She admits that she was afraid, not knowing where that calling would lead. What she didn’t expect was that God would send her to minister in a jail — a step that eventually grew into years of serving as a volunteer prison chaplain.
The assignment may not have been what she expected, but it became part of the foundation for what God was preparing her to do.
God will never call you to something He won’t qualify you for and won’t provide for.
When God speaks, our responsibility is not to wait until every fear disappears. It is to trust Him enough to take the next step.
STEP OUT IN FAITH
A calling cannot be fulfilled by simply sitting and waiting.
If God has already spoken to you, there comes a time when you have to step out in faith.
Your background does not disqualify you from being used by God. Pastor Jo reflects on her own upbringing as “just a plain old ordinary country girl” raised on a farm with thirteen children.
God doesn’t require a perfect background or a perfect sense of readiness. He asks us to trust Him and be willing to follow where He leads.
WE ARE AMBASSADORS OF ANOTHER KINGDOM
One of the central truths of this message is understanding who we are.
As believers, we are ambassadors of another Kingdom.
1 Thessalonians 2:4 reminds us that we have been entrusted with the gospel to please God, not people. John 18:36 reminds us that Jesus declared His Kingdom is not of this world.
That means our response to difficult circumstances should reflect the position of heaven rather than the panic, fear, or despair around us.
We are called to represent God’s Kingdom wherever we are.
REFLECT THE POSITION OF HEAVEN
When the world around us is filled with fear, we have an opportunity to respond differently.
Our responsibility is to reflect the official position of heaven — not simply repeat what our circumstances are telling us.
That doesn’t mean pretending that difficult situations don’t exist. It means choosing to place our trust in God and allowing His Word to shape our response.
When the report is bad, we can still remember that God is good.
A CHOICE THAT MATTERS
Pastor Jo’s story of David’s diagnosis brings these lessons into a very personal place.
In the hospital, faced with unexpected news and uncertainty, she had a choice: allow fear to take over or stand firmly on God’s Word.
Her response was to pray, trust God, and refuse to give fear the authority to determine her words.
Sometimes faith is expressed through what we say.
Sometimes faith is expressed through what we refuse to say.
And sometimes faith simply means standing when everything around you is telling you to give up.
CONCLUSION
Whatever situation you may be facing today, remember that God is still with you.
You may not know what the next step will look like. You may not feel ready. You may even be facing a report that has brought fear into your heart.
But you can choose what you will believe, what you will speak, and where you will place your trust.
You are an ambassador of another Kingdom.
Let your words reflect your faith.
Let your life reflect God’s Kingdom.
And when the report is bad, remember that God is still good.
