FROM HEARTBREAK TO AUTHORITY: SPEAKING TRUTH OVER YOUR THOUGHTS
In this episode of Make the Word Alive, Pastor Jo Anne Ramsay and Pastor Sheila Mitchell talk about what it means to live with Christ in us and allow Him to transform the way we think, speak, and respond to hurt.
CHRIST LIVES IN US
The conversation begins with the reality that being in Christ is more than simply saying that Jesus lives in us. We have been raised with Christ, and our lives are now meant to be lived through Him rather than through our own strength.
Because Christ lives in us, we are not the same people we were before. Our old way of thinking must give way to the mind of Christ.
RENEWING THE MIND
Pastor Jo Anne shares honestly about experiencing heartbreak and how she chose not to respond from the old way of thinking. Instead, she recognized thoughts that did not agree with God’s truth and turned to Scripture and worship.
The more we spend time in God’s Word and allow Him to work in us, the more our thoughts and lives are transformed. We are called to bring thoughts that oppose God’s truth into captivity and bring them into obedience to Christ.
YOUR WORDS HAVE POWER
The episode emphasizes that our words can either lift people up or destroy them. When we are hurt, we may feel tempted to respond from our emotions, but Christ in us gives us the ability to exercise self-control over what we say.
God’s Word gives us the truth we need when painful words, accusations, or negative thoughts come against us. Instead of agreeing with what contradicts God, we can reject it and stand on what He has said about us.
LET CHRIST SPEAK THROUGH YOU
Our identity and security are found in Christ, not in the words other people speak over us. When Christ lives in us, our speech should reflect Him—words that encourage, empower, lift up, and bring life.
Even when heartbreak hurts, we can choose to trust God, speak His Word, and bring our thoughts under the authority of Christ. We do not have to live according to the old way anymore.
